How we test cat hammocks

Three hammocks, one per type of window. Here is what we check before keeping one, and what we measure ourselves.

Our criteria

1. The mount holds without drilling. Suction cups, hooks or a frame: any model that needs a screw or glue is dropped. That is the condition for it to be fitted in a rental and moved when the light shifts.
2. The measurements can be checked. We record the real footprint, not the size of the sleeping surface. On the suction model that means publishing 19.9 in (50.5 cm) — the width of glass you need — rather than the 17.7 in (45 cm) of the pad.
3. The stock holds up. A model available in twos does not make the range. We dropped a wall-mounted hammock for that reason alone, even though the product was good.
4. The lead time stays realistic. We quote 6 to 10 business days and we hold to it. A model that shipped on a one-month lead time was dropped for that reason, despite an attractive price.

What buyers say

We prefer reported use to theoretical figures: buyers describe two cats settled together on the suction model, and a 15 lb (7 kg) cat on the wooden frame. Every order is covered for 30 days: if the hammock does not suit, it goes back at our expense.
